Abstract Ferroelectric materials exhibit strong hysteretic and
nonlinear behavior in their piezoelectric, dielectric and elastic properties. Of special interest are piezoelectric phenomena which combine
effects of electric (charge or field) and elastic (stress or strain) fields
After a brief introduction into ferroelectric and
piezoelectric properties, application of the Preisach approach to the treatment of

hysteresis and nonlinearity in ferroelectrics will be
discussed in detail.
Specifically, we shall address description of the
piezoelectric nonlinearity under bias fields using the Preisach approach, the Rayleigh law
for piezoelectric materials, frequency dependence of the piezoelectric properties, loss
separation in piezoelectric materials, and piezoelectric relaxation withcounter-clockwise
and clockwise sense of hysteresis. |
